Dr Derek Freedman is a consultant Genito-Urinary Physician. He has a private practice in Ranelagh, specialising in Sexually Transmitted Infections, sexual health and HIV medicine. He is attached to the GUIDE Clinic at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin.
Dr. Freedman has a wealth of experience, from the initiation of modern STD services in Ireland to involvement at board level of all the major international societies in the field. He founded the Society for the Study of Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Ireland, and is a founding member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. He served as Venereology Editor of their journal.
He has written and edited several books on the topic, as well as scientific papers. He has contributed to local, national and international media on the topics of STIs, and HIV/AIDS, and is a frequent contributor to numerous radio and television broadcasts.
